the best yet, August 22, 2011 By This review is from: Norelco 8240XL Speed-XL Shaver (Health and Beauty) I've been shaving with Norelco razors since I was a kid in highschool 30 years ago. This is the best Norelco yet. It's quiet, gives a smooth, close shave and I get 10+ days of shaving from a charge. Shaves my neck well. Trimmer does an adequate job on side burns. It fits comfortably in the hand. It cleans easily with water.
My only complaint is, unlike other Norelco models I own, when I open up the head and tap it against the sink to clean it the shaver head falls off. Not a big problem but not one I've had with other Norelcos.
I highly recommend this razor.

Turns out it doesn't have a low battery indicator light. The 8250xl has a low battery indicator light.
8240xl care, feeding, March 28, 2012 This review is from: Norelco 8240XL Speed-XL Shaver (Health and Beauty) My 8240xl is 30 mo old. Its original blades still give a reasonably close shave. Caveat: my beard is not coarse/hard-to-cut. Steps below *do* seem to keep the unit working well.
1. Daily, pre-shave: wash face, apply rubbing alcohol.
1. Daily, post-shave: open, then rinse blade assembly with near-boiling water.
2. Weekly thorough cleaning: take apart blade assembly for boiling water + brush cleaning,
follow with lubrication blast using Remington Shaver Saver.
3. Bi-weekly, run 8240xl until battery cuts out, then fully recharge.
Hoping the 8240xl will run another 30 months.
